Animal Rights vs. Human Rights. This is really a debate? Seriously? I love it when we are about to have an event and PETA calls to get a statement. They always say, “If you are pro-life, then why do you eat animals.”
What I find ironic about that is, undoubtedly, ALL of them are pro-choice!!!! So, my question is, “If you are against killing animals, then why do you believe it is okay to kill children during abortion?” I just don’t get it. I don’t understand how someone can actually think that a chicken can have the same “rights” as a person. I mean, am I missing something here?!?!
Without a doubt, I believe in the humane treatment of animals. Almost all of our animals have come from the shelter and I do believe that animals deserve to be protected, but, do I think they deserve the same “rights” as humans??? No, of course not. They are not humans!
Have we become so dumb as a culture that we don’t even know what things are anymore? If I showed you a banana, I think most of you would be able to say, “That is a banana,” right? Okay, if I show you a frog, I think most everyone would be able to say, “That is a frog.” Now, are a banana and a frog the same thing? I hope you would say no.
You would say no because we are all smart enough to know what things are. We know that a dog is a dog and a person is a person. How have we arrived at this point where things are so backwards? Dogs do not deserve the same rights as people because THEY ARE NOT PEOPLE! They do not have the use of reason, so they cannot choose right or wrong the way a human is able to, so they lack the dignity that human life has.
I just don’t even understand the argument here. I recently saw an ad that had Pam Anderson on it. She was dressed, or not really dressed, in a bikini and she was drawn on like you would quarter out a piece of beef. Well, my first thought was, there is just not enough fat there for any good quality meat. 🙂
My second thought was, I don’t think silicone is edible. My third thought was, what in the world does this have to do with eating beef? I see what they were trying to do, but the bottom line is that cows aren’t people. Cows are here so we can sustain ourselves.
What else would we do with them? I don’t think they would make very good pets. They would be rather difficult to litter train. I believe that animals were put here for us, but many people don’t want to believe that.
Well, those would be the people that believe we are equal with animals. But, if that is not the reason they are here, then why else are they here? Just to make us happy? I don’t think so.
Well, all of this talk about food has made me hungry. I think I will go have a steak.

Hi Ms. Johnson… I agree with you 100%. And I love my animals and do want humane treatment for them. Everyone has their passion and perhaps God put some of us here to protect animals, but not at the expense of humans or INSTAD of humans. Why does it seem most PETA types choose between the 2? Why can’t they love and protect animals while at the same time fight for the human unborn? Satan has to be behind this!
I think we are of the same mind in another way too… all this talk has made me hungry! I am gonna go grill some burgers for myself and unborn baby, my hubby and my 5 other children. All of us, whacky prolife meat-eaters! YUM!

Congrats on your conversion. My daughter and I are pro-life, but also vegetarians. Many Saints were also vegetarians, no we do not see animals on par with humans but our pro-life position makes us cognizant of the suffering many animals go through due to factory farms etc.

I just recently became aware your story. I was so touched by your testimony and so impressed by your bravery in standing up against the group you had been a part of for so long.
That’s probably why this post saddens me so deeply. As a pro-life supporter of animal rights, I’ve never understood why so many members of our two groups feel the need to attack each other for feeling compassion. I sincerely believe that most animal rights activists would support the pro-life movement if they viewed the ultrasound you did or even learned the basic biological facts surrounding abortion. I also believe that you might change your mind about this post if you watched some footage of the suffering and cruelty that goes on in factory farms. From one pro-life supporter to another, I challenge you to try it (sure, PETA’s obnoxious, but they also have some very good undercover factory farm footage available…you just have to ignore some of their more inane statements and let the footage speak for itself). I’m not saying that animals are on the same level as people… but they don’t have to be in order to be capable of suffering. You may not choose to go vegetarian after watching it, but I sincerely believe that you’ll have more respect for those of us who have.

I have watched all of those videos, Mandy. I respect vegetarians. I just won’t ever be one. Animals were put here for our nutritional support. I think that is pretty clear. And science shows that if we didn’t eat them, we would be in a pretty big mess. Having said that, when my family buys meat, we only buy free-range products. Primarily because of the harm the alternative forms can do to us. But also because these animals are treated in a more humane fashion.
The overwhelming majority of PETA supporters are also pro-choice advocates. They constantly harrass the pro-life movement because of the stand we take for human life. They believe that animals are equal to humans. That was the point of this post.

I know we’re close and we’ve discussed this before. This post makes me sad as well.
Does an animal have to be EQUAL to a person to deserve not to be tortured and killed? Obviously, if it came between a cow and a person, few people (even animal rights activists) would choose the person. But it’s not us versus them. I’m a vegetarian because I don’t NEED meat to survive. We breed them to slaughter them. Not kill them, but torture them.
I don’t judge those that eat meat or those that have abortions, but stopping a heartbeat is stopping a heartbeat. You are taking a life of a living breathing creature out of “convenience” either way.
Namaste, Amanda

This post shouldn’t make you sad. It is my opinion. And the bottom line is ACTUALLY this…serious animal rights activists DO believe that a chicken has equal rights to people. I choose to eat meat because I believe that is how it was designed. We were given dominion over the animals.
The point of this post was to say this…most (pretty much all I know) animal rights activists are pro-choice. How can one be pro-choice and then say that they believe in equal rights for all animals. Last I checked, humans are also animals…but according to animal rights activists, they are expendable. Ridiculous.

For what it’s worth, I completely agree with you, Abby, and I do get what you’re saying. I think a few people have missed the point, here. Animals are not on the same level as humans; as you pointed out a few times now, God gave them to us so that we might live. Of course we shouldn’t treat animals cruelly. Of course we should treat them with respect as we should treat all God’s creatures. It would be wrong to kill an animal for no good reason. It’s one of the reasons why my husband gets upset when the fish swallows the hook when he had no intention of keeping it. But when we need to eat, there is no guilt. It’s a blessing. Jesus was a fisherman too, and made it possible to help his disciples catch so many fish that the boat nearly sank. Unfortunately, people have gotten a little confused over the years. You now hear of “Doggy Daycares” and your pet being referred to as “your kid” and that you are “the parent”. Pets have replaced children.
